Salt Industry Development Plan in 2021-2030 Approved

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has recently signed Decision 1325/QD-TTg approving the Salt Industry Development Plan in 2021-2030 to meet the domestic demand for salt, export salt, create jobs, improve income, and stabilize life of salt producers.

The plan targets at 14,500 ha of salt production by 2025 and total volume of 1,500,000 tonnes/year, including 4,805 ha of industrial salt with a production of 640,000 tonnes (43%); invested infrastructure, machines and equipment for salt production and processing in close relation with the market; science and technology applied to salt production and processing to raise yield by at least 20%; developed different kinds of salt to meet domestic demand, paying attention to uniform development of salt containing natural and healthy minerals as well as micro-nutrients with low NaCl content.

The plan also aims at a total area of 14,244 ha and production of 2,000,000 tonnes/year, including 4,887 ha of industrial salt with production of 870,000 toness, to realize the domestic demand.

One of the tasks identified in the plan is to make investment in salt production in close relation with processing and marketing. Accordingly, investment should be made to develop salt production in combination with processing and marketing within the framework of medium-term public investment plan in 2021-2025 and following phases.

Regarding investment in production infrastructure, the Decision also states clearly: make industrial-scale investment in salt production infrastructure to meet demands of chemical industry and high-class fine salt processing in Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

Other tasks defined in the plan include enhancement of research, application of science and technology in salt production and processing to improve yield as well as quality, and diversify salt-based products.

The plan also requires research and assessment of the potential to export salt with low NaCl content and multiple minerals; trade promotion and brand development for export salt products in such provinces as Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh…
