1. VIETNAM'S RICE YEARBOOK IN 2007 AND PERSPECTIVE IN 2008

This is the first Yearbook on Vietnam's rice market developed and published by the Information Center of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (AGROINFO/IPSARD). Also for the first time, this yearbook produces a supply and demand balance built on data of rice production, import-export, marketing, and stocks.

The yearbook has been prep ared by a group of commodity analysts of AGROINFO through implementing a study process: learning techniques in analyzing and forecasting agricultural market from international organizations, organizing field trips to exchange view with different stakeholders along rice value chain in Vietnam, developing and writing reports and reviewing the content of the Yearbook with national and international experts before its publication.

The yearbook contains comprehensive and updated information on rice production, consumption, exportation, and marketing as well as changes in rice trade with the seven following chapters: Rice production in Vietnam; Rice prices and trading; Movement of rice businesses and markets; Rice consumption in Vietnam and Asian countries; The rice supply-demand balance of Vietnam in 2007; Perspectives of rice market in 2008; Data and statistics and Annexes.

The yearbook is published in Vietnamese and English editions which act as a key channel for introducing Vietnam's rice sector to the world market and providing timely information to domestic and international businesses who have interest in Vietnam's rice.

2. REPORT ON DEVELOPMENTS IN 2007 AND PROSPECTS FOR 2008

Report Vietnam's Agriculture in 2007 and Prospects for 2008 has been the very first annual report in Vietnam that was made by an independent analysis unit, Agriculture Development Information Center (AGROINFO), Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD).

The report would provide useful analyses to policy makers, business managers, researchers, donors, individuals and organizations inside and outside Vietnam that are interested in Vietnam's agriculture.

Based on the synthesis of research results of IPSARD and member units, highly credible domestic and international source of data, consultancy of prestigeous experts inside and outside the industry and updated analyzing methods, the report reveals an overall picture of Vietnam's agriculture in 2007 with remarkable issues and prospects for 2008.

Report consists of main contents as following:

• Overview of the world's and region's economy and agriculture;
• Overview of economy and agriculture of some main partners and competitors of Vietnam's economy and agriculture;
• Overview of Vietnam's economy and agriculture in 2007 (growth, investment, production, trade, etc.) and full analysis of the production, trade, price and policy for Vietnam's agricultural products at present (rice, coffee, rubber, pepper, cashew, fruits and vegetables, sugar canes, tea, animal husbandry, wood and forestry products, aquatic products);
• Some main issues of agriculture and rural development in 2007 and
• Bases and forecasts of prospects of Vietnam's economy and agriculture in 2008.
