The agricultural re-structuring has created breakthroughs, solved problems and generated positive developments. The sector has transformed from quantity-based growth to quality-based and value added-based growth, increased the commodities and products with potentials and favorable markets. Thanks to their big productive force, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries have recorded increasing export value, particularly USD 41 – 42 billion in 2019.
As revealed by Mr Tran Cong Thang, Director General of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development, forestry, fisheries, vegetable and fruit sectors have implemented robust re-structuring and obtained great achievements. This success is attributed to the attention and improved policies of the Government, which leverages the participation of different economic sectors. In addition, it also results from a “pull” factor of free trade agreements market, which helps Viet Nam develop production and make adjustments in production in order to meet the market demands.
Typically, the developed fisheries sector proves Viet Nam’s potential. As reported by Mr Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, the Government’s Resolution 120/NQ – CP on climate change adapatation confirmed that fisheries was a potential sector of the Mekong Delta. In the context of increasing climate change, the agriculture is also transforming from rice to fisheries and fruits…
At local level, the crop re-structuring includes rice area reduction, transformation to fruit production and aquaculture in the Mekong Delta. Mr Tran Cong Thang emphasized that the transformation aims to adapt to climate change and meet demands of the agricultural re-structuring. This transformation has initially proven its positive impacts through the high effectiveness in production and stable life of the people in the transformed areas.
Especially, with the world’s market trends, the demand for fishery products and fruits is rapidly increasing with potentials for export and opportunities for value addition… In addition, our rice market is now contracting in the context of strong competition from other rice producers and more strict requirements of importing countries …
