As reported by Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) Nguyen Quoc Tri, the export of timber and forest products valued more than US$ 9 billion for the first 10 months of 2019, a jump of nearly 19% compared with the same period of 2018. For the 10 months, the trade surplus in forest products totaled almost US$ 7 billion. With this achievement, the Government’s 2019 target of US$ 11 billion in export of forest products will be within reach.

Forest products of Viet Nam are being exported to more than 120 nations and territories, of which the U.S., Japan, China, EU and Korea contribute 86.6% of Viet Nam’s forest product export value, equivalent to US$ 7.8 billion.

As reflected by VNFOREST leaders, export orders are frequently increased in the last months every year, in both quantity and value. Especially, based on the signed orders for the last two months of 2019, the target of US$ 11 billion is feasible.

On 17 June, Viet Nam officially became the 50th member of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PECF). Totally, 249,000 ha of forest in 22 provinces have been issued sustainable forest management certificates, including 23,000 ha certified in 2019 in 9 provinces namely Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang (this province has the largest certified area with more than 6,000 ha), Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh

As of 25 October, more than VND 2,400 billion from payment for forest environmental services had been collected, accounting for 76% of the 2019 target. On 25 October, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development finalized the dossier and attach with its submission No.8035/TTr-BNN-TCLN to the Prime Minister for approval of VPA/FLEGT implementation plan.

Regarding forest development, to 22 October 2019, 175,000 ha of forest had been planted, fulfilling almost 83% of the 2019 target, equivalent to 99% of the same period of 2018. For concentrated forest exploitation, about 175,000 ha had been exploited for the first 10 months, accounting for 85% of the 2019 target, a 7% increase compared with the same period last year.
